Age rules for four-year-old pre-K

Children must be four years old by August 1 to enroll. If a child turns four by December 1, the district can allow early enrollment after reviewing milestones, school readiness, and other factors. Families must request this district review.

Rules to run four-year-old programs

Programs must use teachers licensed or approved in early childhood education. They must follow the department’s program requirements and comply with this chapter. They must meet all city and state health, fire, and safety codes to gain and keep approval.

Two-year approvals and $50 application fee

Program operators can request approval that lasts two years. An application costs a nonrefundable $50, paid when you file. The department uses the fee to cover review and inspections. These changes take effect immediately.
