North Dakota funds Native repatriation work

The law gives the North Dakota State Historical Society $5 million from the state general fund. The money is for July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027. It can pay for staffing, training, consultation, and legal and administrative compliance. It can also fund field surveys, inventories, and documentation to meet the federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

Priority and timelines for returning items

The State Historical Society must put top priority on projects that return human remains and funerary items.
