New center helps North Dakota pilots

The law creates the North Dakota Center for Aerospace Medicine at the University of North Dakota. It helps flight students, pilots, unmanned aircraft operators, and air traffic control trainees get Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) medical certification. The center works with the FAA Office of Aerospace Medicine, supports aviation medical examiners (including "Human Intervention Motivational Study" examiners), and expands rural access to exams. It also helps applicants and examiners meet FAA rules, coordinates aviation and space medicine research in the state, and provides education and outreach. The state provides $2 million for July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027 to plan, staff, equip, and run the center and initial research.
