Monthly expense stipend for patrol officers

Each North Dakota Highway Patrol officer can get up to $200 per month from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027. This covers meals and similar costs while traveling in North Dakota or at the home station. It replaces meal and small-expense reimbursements, but lodging is still separate. The stipend is paid with salary and does not require receipts.

Funds Highway Patrol operations in 2025–27

The state appropriates $68.1 million for the Highway Patrol for July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027. Of that, $47.7 million is from the general fund and $20.4 million is from other funds. The budget supports 205 full-time positions and daily patrol costs. The superintendent can transfer up to $10.88 million from the highway tax distribution fund during the biennium. It also provides $1.39 million from the motor carrier electronic permit fund for permit and administrative work.
