Teachers lose license for child or sexual crimes

The law tightens rules to deny or immediately revoke a North Dakota teaching license. A conviction counts if you are found guilty, plead guilty, or plead no contest. It also counts when the court suspends the sentence or gives a deferred imposition. A finding of guilt overturned on appeal does not count. Crimes against a child include many listed North Dakota offenses when the victim is a minor, and attempts to commit them; equivalent federal or local laws also count. Sexual offenses include many listed North Dakota sexual offense statutes and chapter 12.1-27.2, plus equivalent federal or local laws. Licensing officials use these definitions when deciding denial or immediate revocation.
