State government IT planning and review

Executive branch agencies must follow the department’s IT planning process and guidelines. They must submit plans by August 15 of each even-numbered year; the chief information officer can grant an extension. Institutions under the board of higher education are not covered, unless the chief information officer grants an exemption. Judicial and legislative agencies also file plans to the department on the same schedule. The department reviews plans for statewide IT policies and standards and may require changes to fix conflicts. Using these plans, the department prepares a statewide IT plan that stresses long-term goals and alignment with statewide IT initiatives, and shares copies with legislators when the Legislative Council asks.

Old IT planning section repealed

The law repeals section 54-59-11.1 of the North Dakota Century Code. Any rules or powers in that section no longer apply.
