Kids' police and detention records stay private

The law keeps police and correctional records about a child private. This covers kids alleged or found delinquent, or needing services or protection. Only listed officials can see them: juvenile courts and lawyers; agency or institution officers caring for the child; and law enforcement in other places for duty. Courts and correctional, parole, governor, or pardon officials may inspect for sentencing, supervision, parole, or discharge, as can victim compensation staff and school leaders at the child's current or future school. Records can also be shown if the case moves to adult criminal court, or by court order in the child’s interest, or for national security.
