If a court orders restitution for a bad check, you must also pay a collection cost. The cost is the greater of $20 or 25% of the restitution, capped at $1,000. Money from this cost supports the state’s restitution collection fund, and some money goes to county general funds.
Cities or counties can let judges add a fee up to $50 when you plead guilty or are convicted. The fee supports local victim and witness services and the statewide victim notification system. Judges can skip this fee if you are indigent and cannot pay.
Filing an appeal record or an original petition in the North Dakota Supreme Court now costs $250, paid in advance. You may also pay any electronic filing processing fee set by court rule.
Filing a non‑small‑claims civil case now costs $160. Divorce, annulment, or separation filings also cost $160. From each non‑small‑claims filing, $30 goes to the civil legal services fund, up to $900,000 every two years. For divorce filings, $100 goes to the displaced homemaker account and $30 to the state general fund; for other civil filings, $130 goes to the state general fund.
