Licenses and rules for emergency medical providers

The law requires every emergency medical services operation in North Dakota to hold a state license. The Department of Health and Human Services sets and enforces the operating rules. The rules cover when services must be available; prioritizing 911 calls and urgent transfers; and allowing other nonemergent services. They also set driver license requirements, staff training, equipment and vehicle standards, staffing per run, scopes of practice, and performance measures, including response times. Annual license fees apply, and providers must meet these standards to operate. These changes aim to make emergency care safer and more reliable for residents.
