Clearer exam terms and privacy

New insurer data calls with privacy rules

The insurance commissioner can issue data calls to insurers at any time. Companies must answer in writing within 20 days, unless given an extension. The commissioner may ask third parties for information tied to an insurer’s operations. Responses may be sent to a designated repository, including the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. All data call materials are confidential and not subject to subpoena. The commissioner can use them in investigations and may publish anonymized, aggregate summaries.
