Stricter license renewal checks for contractors

To renew a contractor license, you must include a liability insurance certificate naming the registrar, unless a current one is already on file. You must also certify you have submitted all payroll taxes due at renewal, including North Dakota income tax withholding, workforce safety and insurance premiums, and unemployment insurance premiums. These documents do not need to be notarized. After you file your project list, the registrar sends it to the state tax commissioner within a reasonable time.

Contractors list only projects over $50K

For license renewal, you list each project, contract, or subcontract you finished in North Dakota last year only if it was over $50,000. The law replaces the old $25,000 reporting rule. Most contractors will report fewer projects each year.
