New fund for internet crimes against children

The law creates the Internet Crimes Investigation Fund in the state treasury. Money comes from the fees paid by convicted people and any interest earned. The attorney general can spend it on IT hardware, software licenses, digital forensic training, and internet safety talks. The fund helps law enforcement and groups that prevent technology‑facilitated child sexual exploitation and internet crimes against children.

Convicted people pay up to $100 for device exams

If you are convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, the court requires you to repay the cost of any digital forensic exam done on your personal device. This includes a cell phone, tablet, laptop, computer, or two-way messaging device. The fee is added to your sentence and cannot be more than $100 per defendant. The state treasurer deposits the money into the Internet Crimes Investigation Fund.
