Pay allowed for ambulance board members

Rural ambulance district boards can pay their members. The board sets the pay rate. The secretary-treasurer may receive a salary set by the board.

Rural ambulance board rules and elections

Each rural ambulance district elects a board of 5 to 10 local residents at a public meeting. Directors and officers serve two-year terms; at the first election, the vice president serves one year to start staggered terms. Bylaws can set the board size within that range and must give equal township representation. Bylaws can also use both regional and at-large seats. If a member resigns, the district must hold a special meeting within 60 days to elect a replacement. No more than two board members may be from the licensed ambulance service, and they must qualify as volunteers under state law.
