Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Advocate support and privacy in exams

You can talk with a sexual assault advocate during a forensic medical exam, if one is available in time. Your talks with the advocate are confidential. Your choice to waive an advocate is also confidential. The law names which groups’ advocates count for this role.

Who is covered and rights notice

The law defines who is a sexual violence survivor for these rights. At first contact, police or medical staff must give you a document from the attorney general that explains your rights.

Lawyer at interviews and free report

You can have a privately hired lawyer with you when you speak to police about the assault. This does not apply during a forensic interview of an alleged child victim. You can get the police report for free, unless giving it would hinder the investigation or you are a minor.
