New term limits for state lawmakers

The law places a constitutional amendment on the November 2026 ballot. Upon voter approval, a person can serve no more than three complete four-year terms in the House and three in the Senate. Service of less than four years does not count toward the limit. The limits apply only to people elected after January 1, 2023. Upon approval, it also removes the prior ban that stopped the legislature from proposing term-limit changes.
