An adult protective services official is a Health and Human Services employee who develops and runs adult protective services. Each official must complete at least one hour of training on Alzheimer’s and other dementia. Officials employed when the law takes effect must finish within 30 days. All officials must repeat the training at least every five years. Training covers symptoms, respectful communication, behavior and safety (including wandering), when to alert police about crime, neglect, or exploitation, how to spot self-neglect and caregiver neglect, and how to refer people to local dementia-care help. The department may partner with a nonprofit with dementia expertise to provide the training.
The law repeals Nebraska statutes sections 28-348 and 28-350 as part of updating the Adult Protective Services Act. This section does not state direct changes for households. Any effects come from other parts of the Act.
