Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

5 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.

Special park permits for veterans and military

A Nebraska resident veteran can get one disabled veteran vehicle permit for free if they apply and have either a VA disability rating of 50% or more, or a VA total and permanent disability pension not incurred in the line of duty. The veteran’s discharge must be honorable or general. This permit is perpetual and only ends if eligibility ends. Active-duty service members stationed at a Nebraska base can buy a yearly permit for $5, no matter their residency. Show your military ID and proof of stationing; the permit lasts through December 31.

Temporary discounted park permits allowed

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission can offer permits at temporarily reduced prices for set events or time periods. The law allows discounts but does not promise specific deals or dates.

Annual and day-use permit prices

You pay for a park vehicle permit. A resident annual permit costs up to $50. Nonresidents pay twice the resident fee. A resident temporary permit costs up to $10 and lasts until noon the next day; nonresidents pay twice that. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission sets the exact amounts by rule, and annual permits are valid through December 31.

New 2027 hangtag park permit

Beginning January 1, 2027, you can buy an annual hangtag if you have a Nebraska resident vehicle. The price equals a resident annual permit plus a duplicate annual permit, plus a convenience fee up to $15. It is valid through December 31 and you can move it between your Nebraska-registered vehicles when displayed. It cannot be reproduced or replaced if lost or stolen.

Where to buy and display permits

You must display a valid permit to enter a permit area at any time. Put stickers on the lower driver’s-side windshield; hangtags hang from the rearview mirror or sit on the front dash if there is no mirror. You can buy permits at commission offices, some park offices, vending stations, online, county offices, or designated agents, who may charge an issuing fee. Hangtags are sold only at central or district commission offices and designated park offices. Entering without a proper permit is a Class V misdemeanor; the court confiscates any misused permit, and if the driver is unknown, the owner or registrant is held responsible.
