The law adds a new fee when you register a vehicle powered by an alternative fuel, on top of other DMV fees. Most alternative-fuel vehicles pay $150 at registration. A motorcycle or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle pays $75. A commercially registered alternative-fuel vehicle over 7,500 pounds that is not registered under section 60-3,198 pays three times the standard fee ($450). County treasurers collect the fee and send it to the State Treasurer for the Highway Trust Fund.
