Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Loan repayment and Medicaid rules for clinicians

The law pays up to $30,000 per year for physicians, psychiatrists, dentists, and psychologists. It pays up to $15,000 per year for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, dietitian nutritionists, and mental-health practitioners. For these listed allied practitioners, total payments cannot exceed $45,000. You must work full time at least three years in a designated Nebraska shortage area and accept Medicaid patients. The State and a local entity share the cost equally, and the department pays you directly.

More loan help for nurse anesthetists and dietitians

The law adds nurse anesthetists and dietitian nutritionists to the Rural Health Systems and Professional Incentive Act. Students accepted into accredited Nebraska programs in these fields can get student loans, up to $30,000 per year. Licensed practitioners in these fields can apply for loan repayment when they start work in a designated shortage area. You cannot be in a residency or on a provisional or temporary license. Nebraska now names shortage areas for these fields, which unlocks these incentives.
