The law requires the Department to seek federal approval by Oct 1, 2023 to extend postpartum Medicaid from 60 days to at least 6 months, with an option for 12 months. Beginning Jan 1, 2025, Medicaid covers a personal electric breast pump at 36 weeks of pregnancy or at birth, and at least 10 lactation visits per mother (or for the child if the mother is not covered). The state funds lactation visits at a rate equal to a 145% increase over the current rate. Beginning Jan 1, 2027, Medicaid covers home blood pressure monitoring for pregnant and postpartum people, including training, daily readings, and sending data to your provider. By Oct 1, 2025, the Department must seek federal approval to add nurse home‑visiting case management for postpartum mothers and babies under 6 months, paid from the Medicaid Managed Care Excess Profit Fund.
Starting Jan 1, 2023, Medicaid covers continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) when you have a prescription. Beginning Aug 1, 2024, coverage also applies to everyone who meets the local coverage rules in effect Jan 1, 2024, and it includes gestational diabetes. The Legislature sets an annual $600,000 appropriation from the Medicaid Managed Care Excess Profit Fund for the 2024 expansion, with any extra costs also paid from that fund.
The law requires the Department to apply by Oct 1, 2025 to cover medical respite care at two sites—one in a metropolitan‑class city and one in a primary‑class city—for homeless adults in the Medicaid expansion group. Services are funded from the Medicaid Managed Care Excess Profit Fund. If launched, the Department reports each year on counts, costs, and any health care cost reductions.
Medicaid covers community-based secure residential and subacute behavioral health services for eligible people, whether or not a mental health board ordered them. The law required the Department to seek federal approval by July 1, 2009. Beginning Jan 1, 2026, Medicaid also pays for psychology care from advanced‑level practitioners who finished required training and work under a licensed psychologist.
Beginning Jan 1, 2024, Medicaid pays for needed translation and interpretation during covered services. The services use the Medicaid Managed Care Excess Profit Fund, and the state seeks the maximum federal match.
