Parents get school library catalogs and alerts

Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, each school board must have a policy on parent access to school libraries. The district must share a catalog of every book, organized by each school building, for parents, guardians, or educational decisionmakers to view. You can choose to get a notice when your student checks out a book. Notices can come by a website or app, or by opt-in email. Each notice must include the title, the author, and the due date.

Rules only cover on-campus libraries

These rights apply only to school libraries on school district property. They do not apply to other public libraries, even if the district contracts with them for student use. This limit starts at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year.
