Virtual inspections for small home permits

Permitting agencies can run live virtual inspections for small home projects. This applies to single- or two-family buildings under three stories and under 10,000 square feet. The permit holder must give the name of the licensed or registered contractor doing the work. The live call includes the permit holder and an authorized inspector. For nonstructural reinspections, agencies can accept photos or video. Agencies using virtual inspections do not have to publish the contractor’s name.

No self-inspections and clear records

Inspections must be done by an authorized inspector. That means someone credentialed with the permitting agency or a third-party inspector registered or licensed in Nebraska. A permit holder cannot inspect their own work. Inspection records must show pass or fail, list any reasons for failure or plan deviations, and link to the permit address.
