Fingerprint checks and fees for guardians, conservators

If you are nominated to be a guardian or conservator, you must give fingerprints for a national FBI background check. The Nebraska State Patrol takes your prints, sends them to the FBI, and sends a criminal-history report to the State Court Administrator. The report must be filed with the court at least 10 days before the hearing, unless the judge allows a change or the case is expedited. You must pay the actual cost for fingerprinting and the check. Temporary and emergency appointments are exempt, and the court can waive for good cause. This rule does not apply to financial institutions or trust companies and their officers, directors, employees, or agents. The law also repeals older guardianship text to match these rules.
