New membership and terms for victim compensation board

The law updates who serves on Nebraska’s Crime Victim’s Reparations Committee. Within 30 days after the law takes effect, the Governor appoints five public members, with approval by the Legislature. Two must represent victim-service charities (at least one focused on sexual assault, human trafficking, or domestic abuse), two must have training and work experience with victims (at least one in those crimes), and one must be a victim. Until those successors are named, the public members are one charity representative, one business representative, and one trained representative for crime victims. Public members serve four-year terms starting October 1, with one charity rep and one trained rep serving an initial two-year term to stagger seats. If a seat opens, the replacement serves the rest of that term, and members continue to serve until a successor is appointed.
