Stronger parole supervision and reentry help

The law requires the Board of Parole and the prison department to cut releases with no supervision. Every parolee gets at least nine months of community supervision. Release decisions must use a validated risk-and-needs test and consider criminal history, program completion, conduct, and other factors. By February 1 each year, they send an electronic report to the Legislature, Supreme Court, and Governor. It shows the share released without supervision and lists their felony class, offense type, risk score, reentry plan status, and reasons. It also reports eligible inmates who remain incarcerated (by reason), parole hearings and revocations (by reason), parolee rehabilitation and recidivism, and cost savings from parole. The department keeps a list of people likely to finish a sentence with no supervision and uses it to place them in work release and reentry centers.
