Annual parole report and reentry placements

Each year by February 1, the Board and the Department file an electronic report. They send it to the Legislature, the Nebraska Supreme Court, and the Governor. It shows the share released with no supervision and who they are, including felony level, offense type, latest risk score, reentry plan status, and reasons for release. It gives steps to cut such releases and reports on parole-eligible people still in prison, parole revocations, hearings, recidivism, and cost savings from parole. The Department also keeps a list of people likely to finish in custody without supervision. It uses the list to place people in community work release and reentry centers.

More supervised, risk-based parole decisions

The Board of Parole, with the Department, sets rules to cut releases with no supervision. Each parolee gets at least nine months of supervision. The rules focus on a strong transition back to the community. Every parole-eligible inmate is scored with a validated risk-and-needs tool from the Department. Release decisions use risk of reoffending, criminal history, program completion, conduct, and other factors.
