Independent drug tests before inmate discipline

The law lets any Nebraska inmate ask for an independent confirmation test before discipline for drug or alcohol violations. The Department of Correctional Services must provide this testing. It covers positive urine tests and positive screening, field, presumptive, or spot tests of suspected contraband items. If the confirmation test stays positive, the inmate can be required to pay the cost. The law does not set the dollar amount.
