The law expands victim notifications for serious felonies like murder, assault, stalking, kidnapping, sexual crimes, and trafficking, including attempts. After conviction, the county attorney sends your contact details to the Parole Board, Corrections (state or county), Health and Human Services, and the Board of Pardons. Agencies keep your address and phone number confidential and leave your name out of public parole or pardon records. The Parole Board tells you within 90 days the tentative release date and earliest parole eligibility, and later about hearings, decisions, and parole returns to custody. Corrections and jails notify you about furloughs or releases of 24 hours or more, community program starts and ends, escapes and returns, and discharge; they aim to give at least 30 days’ notice before discharge. On request, you get one mailed earliest release or parole calculation within 30 days, plus notice of any reduction in the minimum sentence and your right to submit a victim impact statement. In mental health or sex offender commitments, Health and Human Services notifies you about petitions, escapes and returns, changes in inpatient status, program releases, and discharge. The Board of Pardons gives certified-mail notice at least 30 days before a hearing and, if granted, notifies you within 10 days after. You may waive notices and later ask for them any time while the person is supervised; for Health and Human Services cases, you can request notices up to three years after discharge.
