Task force to study highways

The law creates the Infrastructure Review Task Force to study Nebraska’s highways, past projects, and future needs. It must use the Department of Transportation’s annual highway needs report and other research. It reviews road condition and safety, weighs economic impacts, and identifies federal funds Nebraska can seek and use. By December 1 each year, it submits an electronic report with findings, recommendations, and draft bills to the Clerk of the Legislature.

Who serves on the highway task force

Members include the Governor or a designee, the Speaker, and the chairs of the Revenue and Transportation and Telecommunications Committees. The Director-State Engineer, the Tax Commissioner, and three senators chosen by the Executive Board also serve. Non-legislators are nonvoting, ex officio. The Revenue Committee chair leads the task force, and Revenue Committee staff provide support. All members serve without pay.
