The law creates the Infrastructure Review Task Force for Nebraska’s state highways. It reviews the whole transportation network, past projects, and future needs, using the Department of Transportation’s annual highway needs report and other data. It looks at road conditions, safety, and the economic impact of transportation. It researches federal funds and recommends how Nebraska should get and use them. By December 1 each year, it sends findings, recommendations, and draft bills to the Legislature.
Members include the Governor, the Governor’s designee, key legislative leaders, the State Engineer, the Tax Commissioner, and three appointed legislators. The chair of the Revenue Committee leads the task force, and Revenue Committee staff provide support. Nonlegislative members are nonvoting, ex officio. All members serve without pay.
