DHHS leads statewide disability plan

The law puts DHHS in charge of the statewide Olmstead plan. DHHS must bring together other state agencies to write the plan. A stakeholder committee helps and must include two people with disabilities. An independent consultant reviews goals and deadlines and suggests fixes. The plan focuses on housing, jobs, education, community supports, and transportation in community settings.

Yearly public hearing on disability plan

By October 1 each year, two legislative committees hold a joint public hearing. They review last year’s progress in housing, jobs, education, supports, and transportation. They also consider possible new laws. They must submit findings electronically to the Clerk by December 31. The finished plan was due December 15, 2019. Progress reports are due December 15, 2021, and every three years after. All plan and progress reports go to the Legislature electronically. This hearing rule does not make DHHS file a separate report referenced in law.
