The law now counts some Department of Correctional Services employees as law enforcement officers. The department must designate the employee. The person must finish entry-level law enforcement certification from a training academy. They must do more than 100 hours of crime or enforcement work each year. They must also be authorized by law to make arrests. Except for a noncertified conditional officer, an officer must hold a valid certificate or diploma. Probation officers, parole officers, and certain Department of Revenue employees are not included.
