Designated correctional staff gain law enforcement status

The law now counts some Department of Correctional Services employees as law enforcement officers. The department must designate the employee. The person must finish entry-level law enforcement certification from a training academy. They must do more than 100 hours of crime or enforcement work each year. They must also be authorized by law to make arrests. Except for a noncertified conditional officer, an officer must hold a valid certificate or diploma. Probation officers, parole officers, and certain Department of Revenue employees are not included.
