Some veterans home rules are repealed

The law repeals Nebraska statutes 80-328 and 80-330 that governed state veterans homes. This changes the legal rules that guide how those homes operate. If you live in, apply to, or help a resident of a state veterans home, check with the Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs for current rules and services. Some rules or services may change as a result.

Nebraska military commission gets clear duties

The law updates the Commission on Military and Veteran Affairs and names who votes. Voting members are the Economic Development director, the Adjutant General, the Veterans’ Affairs director, and three Nebraska residents, one from each congressional district. At least one resident member has military experience and at least one has a business background. The Governor appoints the residents to first terms of 2, 3, and 4 years, then 4-year terms that start October 1; vacancies are filled for the time left. The law also lists nonvoting members, including key military commanders and federal partners. The commission must send a yearly report on bases, missions, and their economic impact to the Legislature, the Governor, and each base commander by November 15.
