Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 4 costs, 0 mixed.

Cost-based exam and license fees

The State Electrical Board sets exam, issuance, and renewal fees by unanimous vote to cover program costs and avoid surpluses. The exam fee is $60 for electrical contractor, journeyman, residential journeyman, fire alarm installer, and special electrician licenses. You pay a per-year fee for each year of the two-year period for new licenses and renewals, including apprentice registrations and certain pre‑1993 license classes that renew now.

New license deadlines and late fees

All licenses and registrations under the Nebraska State Electrical Act now expire on December 31 of even-numbered years. Renew between October 1 and November 30 of even-numbered years. Late renewal is allowed December 1–December 31 with an extra 10% of the renewal fee for each month or part of a month late. If your license is more than three months expired, you must apply for a new license or registration.

SSN required on license applications

Every application for a license or registration under the Nebraska State Electrical Act must include your Social Security number. Submit it with your application or renewal.

Stronger criminal penalties for violations

Knowingly making false statements, doing electrical work without the right license while claiming you have one, refusing inspections, or ignoring board rules is a crime. Penalties now range from a Class I misdemeanor up to a Class IV felony.
