2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
When the sheriff collects your unpaid taxes by distress and sale, the law charges a commission. You pay 10% on the first $500 collected and 8% on any amount above $500. These commissions, and any related fees and mileage, are added to your tax bill and collected with the tax.
You pay $22 for each distress warrant and $1 for each levy. You also pay mileage at the sheriff rate in section 33-117 for miles actually and necessarily traveled. If the officer serves more than one warrant on a trip, mileage is charged once and split among those warrants. If no taxes are collected by distress and sale, mileage still must be paid under section 33-117.
