Nebraska school meals remove six dyes

Beginning August 1, 2027, Nebraska public K–12 schools cannot serve school meals with six color additives. The banned dyes are Blue No. 1, Blue No. 2, Green No. 3, Red No. 40, Yellow No. 5, and Yellow No. 6. The rule only covers meals in federal school meal programs, like the National School Lunch Program. It does not cover other foods sold or offered outside a school meal. The list follows the FDA’s status as of January 1, 2026. The law does not set exemptions or penalties in this section.
