No artificial dyes in Nebraska school meals

Beginning August 1, 2027, Nebraska public K-12 schools cannot serve school meals that contain these color additives: Blue No. 1, Blue No. 2, Green No. 3, Red No. 40, Yellow No. 5, or Yellow No. 6. The rule only applies to meals served under the federal National School Lunch Act or the Child Nutrition Act. It uses the FDA color-additive list as it existed on January 1, 2026. Foods given or sold to students outside those meal programs are not covered.
