Gold Star families get special license plates
Beginning 60 days after passage, New Hampshire provides Gold Star Mother, Father, and Family license plates. Eligible relatives include mothers, stepmothers, fathers, stepfathers, and other immediate family members of service members killed while on duty. Each qualifying person gets one set for one vehicle they own, paying regular registration fees but no extra plate fee. Applicants must provide DD Form 1300 or an official casualty notice, proof of relationship, and a certification letter. That letter must come from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or another recognized authority. Requested plate characters must meet state rules, be unused and unreserved, and contain no offensive, profane, or inappropriate content. The director checks availability at application and can deny or revoke combinations that violate the law or rules.
