Higher penalties for unpaid hazardous-waste accident costs

Beginning January 1, 2026, parties owing hazardous materials or waste accident expenses face higher penalties after 90 days without payment. The law replaces a one-time $1,000 penalty with $1,000 per day, starting on day 91 and continuing until payment. Interest also applies at the rate set by RSA 336:1. The law sets no maximum penalty or expiration date.
