Daily fines for unpaid hazardous cleanup costs
Beginning January 1, 2026, people or businesses that owe hazardous materials or waste accident costs face new late fees. If the bill is unpaid for 90 days, a $1,000 penalty applies for each day it stays unpaid. Interest also accrues at the state rate set in RSA 336:1. There is no cap on the total penalty. This applies to parties liable under RSA 154:8-a for hazardous accident costs.
