Towns can set rules on health hazards

Beginning 60 days after the law’s passage, town health officers can make local rules to prevent and remove nuisances and similar public‑health threats. A rule takes effect only after the selectmen approve it and the town clerk records it. It also must be published in a newspaper printed in the town, or copies must be posted in two or more public places in the town. This gives towns a clear local tool to address health hazards.
