Penalties for sign vandalism and fake postings

Beginning January 1, 2026, removing, defacing, or destroying another person’s sign, poster, or property is a class B misdemeanor. Posting a sign that forbids activities on land you know you have no right to post on is also a class B misdemeanor. The law sets fines for the unauthorized posting offense: $200 for a first offense and $500 for a second or later offense. These rules protect landowners and the public from false postings and vandalism.
