Basements don't count against building size
In towns that set floor-area-ratio (FAR) limits, below-ground space no longer counts toward FAR for new buildings. Builders can put parking, storage, and mechanical rooms underground without using up FAR. It covers new buildings, including ones created by major renovations, and only in towns with FAR limits. The law takes effect 60 days after passage.
