Chair and terms for fair board

The board elects its Chair from any of its members. County and city appointees serve as long as they hold their office. The six board‑appointed members serve two‑year terms and can be reappointed only once. If a member stops working in the field they represent, they lose the seat and the proper authority names a replacement from that field to finish the term. Any county or city appointee must be a member of that body, and vacancies are filled by whoever made the original appointment.

New makeup of county fair board

In counties with 100,000 to under 700,000 people, the fair and recreation board has nine members. County commissioners pick one seat. The largest city picks one, and the next largest city picks one. The other six are chosen by the board from set nominee lists: an air service rep named by the airport authority (not an elected officer); a tourism or resort/commercial rep from the largest city’s chamber; a business/commercial rep from a visitor’s bureau that gets lodging tax money, or if none exists, from the third‑largest township’s chamber; and three gaming reps from the gaming association whose members paid the most state gaming fees last year (or, if no such group exists, three people who represent gaming). If nominees are not acceptable, the board asks for a new list.
