New wellness task force for first responders

Beginning July 1, 2025, Nevada creates the Purple Ribbon Task Force on Firefighter and Peace Officer Wellness. It has nine members: 2 by the Senate Majority Leader, 1 by the Senate Minority Leader, 3 by the Governor, 2 by the Speaker, and 1 by the Assembly Minority Leader. When possible, members include a local government rep, police and firefighter labor reps, a state law enforcement rep, and a resource officer with behavioral health training. The Task Force reviews current wellness policies for firefighters, peace officers, and other law enforcement staff. It recommends wellness programs for state and local law enforcement agencies and fire departments. It must submit a written report to the Director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau for the 84th Session’s Government Affairs committees. All appointments must be made by October 1, 2025. The law ends June 30, 2027.

Task force meeting rules and funding

At its first meeting, the Task Force elects a Chair and a Vice Chair. The Chair or a majority of members may call meetings. A majority of members is a quorum, and a majority of those present can take official action. The Task Force may apply for and accept gifts, donations, bequests, grants, and other money to do its work.

No pay, but paid time to serve

Task Force members do not get paid for serving. If a member works for the State or a local government, they keep their regular pay while they prepare for and attend meetings and do Task Force duties. Their agency may not make them use vacation or compensatory time or make up the time.
