Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

CPR certification for school athletics staff

Charter schools must set a plan so PE teachers and athletic staff get CPR training and keep certification current. The plan must follow American Heart Association or Red Cross rules and be sent to the State Board. Private high schools must also plan CPR training for coaches and athletic staff, and may use local fire, police, or nonprofits to train.

CPR, AED and donation in health class

Middle and high school health classes must teach hands-only CPR, how to use an AED, and organ and tissue donation, including how to register. The instruction follows American Heart Association or Red Cross standards. A teacher who gives the CPR and AED lesson does not have to be CPR-certified unless the local school board or charter board requires it.

Stronger school plans for heart emergencies

Public and charter schools must include an immediate response plan for heart emergencies, like cardiac arrest. Starting July 1, 2025, private schools must do the same. School emergency committees may include trained health-care providers, like physicians, nurses, EMTs, and paramedics. This improves readiness and helps schools act fast during a heart emergency.

Local expense cap waived for this law

Nevada’s expense cap rule (NRS 354.599) does not apply to extra local government costs from this law. Local governments count and report these costs outside that cap.
