End email notices that don’t reach

For portable electronics insurance, insurers must stop emailing notices if they have reason to think you did not get them. They must also stop if your email on file is no longer valid.

Clear notice and cancellation rules

Insurers cannot end a portable electronics policy before it expires unless they give at least 30 days’ notice to the policyholder and each enrolled customer. If policy terms change, they must send updated documents and a summary of changes at least 30 days before they take effect. Coverage for an enrolled customer can end right away for fraud or material misrepresentation, but the insurer must notify the vendor and the customer within 10 days after discovery. Coverage may also end right away for nonpayment, if you end service with the vendor, or if the policy’s total limit is used up; for limit exhaustion, the insurer must send notice within 30 days or coverage stays in force until notice is sent. If a group policy held by a vendor ends, the insurer must give each enrolled customer at least 30 days’ notice and may allow the vendor to send it. All required notices must be in writing, and the insurer or vendor must keep proof they sent them.
