Medicaid payment support for school care

Beginning July 1, 2025, Nevada must seek federal authority by October 1, 2025, for Medicaid rates at least 5% higher for covered services delivered at school by school-agency or state education department employees or contractors. The request must also seek simpler payment rules and rates at least 10% higher for covered primary and preventive care at school-based health centers. The law requires these requests but does not establish that federal approval occurred or higher rates took effect. Beginning January 1, 2026, Nevada must establish incentives for certified community behavioral health clinics and federally qualified health centers that agree with school agencies or the state education department to serve Medicaid-enrolled public-school children. Incentives can use higher rates or payments tied to care quality, with no amount set; the department must seek needed federal authority for funding.

New Medicaid billing help for schools

Beginning January 1, 2026, Nevada must help school agencies and the state education department get Medicaid payments for covered services delivered at school to Medicaid-enrolled children. The law creates the School Health Access Resource Center within the state Medicaid division to help providers choose billing methods and meet participation and billing requirements. The division must supply the center’s staff, facilities, equipment, supplies, and operating support. Beginning July 1, 2025, the law provides $600,000 for setup contracts, $224,000 for staffing and operations, and $5,000 for equipment. Funds cannot be committed after June 30, 2027, or spent after September 17, 2027; remaining money must return to the State General Fund by September 17, 2027.
