Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

One-time grants to Nevada nonprofits

Beginning July 1, 2025, the law gives one-time grants to three nonprofits: $250,000 to the Mob Museum for expansion planning; $100,000 to the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges to support the Nevada Judicial Resource Center on Firearms; and $250,000 to Raise the Future for its Nevada programs. Funds must not be committed for spending after June 30, 2027. Any remaining money must be returned to the State General Fund by September 17, 2027.

Grants for K-12 school gardens

Beginning July 1, 2025, the state provides $200,000 in FY 2025–26 and $200,000 in FY 2026–27 for school gardens. The Department of Education gives grants to nonprofits to run programs at public schools, and hydroponic gardens count. To qualify, programs must build and maintain a garden; use a Nevada desert‑focused K‑12 STEM curriculum that meets state science standards; include hands‑on, supervised class and garden time; involve teachers and trained helpers like educators, farmers, or chefs; let students run a farmers market and see cooking demos; and have a garden team that meets monthly. Any local group delivering services must have at least two years of experience. Grant money can pay for teacher training, travel to garden trainings or conferences, food‑safety planning, and conferences held in Nevada.

Deadlines and reports for garden grants

Nonprofits that take these grants must file a spending report by October 1, 2026 for costs through June 30, 2026. They must file a final report by October 1, 2027 for costs through June 30, 2027. The Legislative Auditor can review their records if asked by the Legislative Commission. Money not committed by June 30 of each fiscal year cannot be spent after September 18, 2026 or September 17, 2027. Any unspent money must be returned to the State General Fund by those dates.
