Free salvage permits for road-killed wildlife

The law requires rules so the Nevada Department of Wildlife issues salvage permits. A salvage permit lets you collect wildlife killed by a vehicle or other accidental event. No fee may be charged for the permit. The Commission can stop permits if any wildlife in Nevada is confirmed to have chronic wasting disease.

Tag and storage rules for salvaged wildlife

The law lets the Commission’s rules create exceptions to normal tag and closed-season possession rules for salvaged wildlife. You must attach or validate required tags before transport, and you cannot remove or reuse tags. You may keep legally taken wildlife at home after the season, and, under Commission rules, in a warehouse or locker within possession limits. Proof like tags or certificates may be required for game kept after the season.
