Annual state guide for emergency plans

The Division of Emergency Management must publish a plain guide to help groups that must file emergency plans under state law, including schools, resort hotels, and some utilities. The Division reviews the guide every year and updates it if needed. It posts the guide online by January 15 each year and must provide a copy on request to covered groups. This helps keep plans current and consistent.

School safety plans private, share with responders

The law keeps school emergency plans and related materials confidential. The Division of Emergency Management can share a plan, update, or approved deviation with a local public safety agency. Sharing is allowed only when the Division decides it is reasonably necessary for terrorism, a related emergency, or for preparedness, coordination, or response. Local police, fire, and other responders can use the plans to prepare and respond. Plans are not released to the public.
