NYPD pensions pick higher salary base

The law changes how NYPD pension pay is set for members hired on or after July 1, 2000. Their salary base now follows the same rule as pre-2000 hires. It uses the higher of: pensionable pay in the final 12 months, or the average of any three straight years, subject to existing caps. The change takes effect immediately and applies to members who retire on or after that date. This can raise monthly pension checks when the three-year average is higher.
