New conference funding for Oklahoma colleges

The law creates a State Treasury fund to help plan a new Oklahoma-based college athletic conference. Money can come from state appropriations, gifts, grants, donations, and bequests; the law sets no dollar amount. The Commission can pay for studies, meetings, consultations, initial conference operations, and schools’ fees to leave their current conferences. Fund money is appropriated for the act, and unused money remains available without a fiscal-year limit. The Commission must explore private partnerships, sponsorships, and grants. Payments require approved claims through the Office of Management and Enterprise Services and warrants issued by the State Treasurer. The law took effect immediately upon passage and the Governor’s approval.
