Beginning November 1, 2025, Oklahoma requires insurers to pay providers directly when the insured agrees. The payment must cover services, materials, or other items covered by the policy. Payments remain subject to applicable liens, meaning legal claims against the payment still apply. This changes who receives the money, not how much the policy covers. The law also leaves attorneys free to collect fees for actions related to property insurance claims.
Beginning November 1, 2025, Oklahoma bans seeking or accepting transfers of benefits after a loss under auto collision, comprehensive, home, or commercial property insurance. This includes transferring claim rights or proceeds to or from providers handling claims, inspecting damage, or protecting or repairing property. Banned agreements cannot be enforced, and violations trigger insurance-law procedures and penalties for unfair or deceptive trade practices. Exceptions cover transfers to federally insured financial institutions, mortgage lenders, or later buyers of the property. The ban does not apply to liability coverage under these policies.
